Tata Power-DDL conferred with ‘Power Utility of the Year- India’ at the Asian Power Awards 2019

Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power distribution company serving a populace of 7 million in the national capital, has won two prestigious awards — ‘Power Utility of the Year- India Award’ and ‘Innovative Power Technology of the Year Award’ at the 15th Asian Power Awards held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tata Power-DDL has been honoured with the Power Utility of the Year- India Award for its operational achievements including record low AT&C losses, enhanced consumer services, implementation of breakthrough technologies including several firsts in India, efforts towards sustainable development and more.

The company has also been recognised with the ‘Innovative Power Technology of the Year Award’ for its implementation of Field Force Automation (FFA) towards optimization of operations field crews to improve customer satisfaction.

The Asian Power Awards are the power industry’s leading awards independently judging the best in the industry in Asia. The awards are aimed at recognising the broad spectrum of Asia’s power supply industry and acknowledging the vital input from all elements of the industry. Several leading Asian power companies from China, Korea, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong participated in the awards. The jury of the Asian Power Awards comprise practitioners and experts in the Asian power market and while deciding on the winners they looked for the best-of-the-best practices in Asia’s power generation and power supply industries and organisations.

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of NCT of Delhi with the majority stake being held by Tata Power Company (51%). Tata Power-DDL distributes electricity in North & North West parts of Delhi and serves a populace of 7 million. The company started operations on July 1, 2002 post the unbundling of the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB). With a registered consumer base of 1.8 million and a peak load of around 2106 MW, the company's operations span across an area of 510 sq. kms. Tata Power-DDL has been the front-runner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city and is acknowledged for its consumer friendly practices. Since privatization, the Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses in Tata Power-DDL areas have shown a record decline. AT&C loss is a measure of overall efficiency of the distribution business which is the difference between units input into the system and the units for which the payment is collected. Today, AT&C losses stand at 7.3 % which is an unprecedented reduction of around 84% from an opening loss level of 53% in July 2002.
